The wind orchestra of the Music Institute of the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts, the Zsolnay Wind Orchestra (ZSWO) managed to win almost all of the awards of the 21st International Festival of Wind Orchestras in Prague, which they received from the Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic!

The National Union of Students in Hungary (HÖOK), the Ministry of Human Capacities and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade organized a banquet on 15 February 2019 in Budapest, where the awards for the best mentors and best institutional mentors have been announced. A student of the University of Pécs, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Shahab Wali Khan won the Mentor of the Year Award.

The University of Pécs was ranked 140th on the list of UI GreenMetric University Ranking comparing 719 higher education institutions from all over the world. The press release published on 19 December 2018 in Depok, Indonesia shows that with 39 places better than last year, the University of Pécs is the second “greenest” university of Hungary according to this ranking.

The Times Higher Education international ranking placed the University of Pécs to the prestigious 401-500 place in two categories. According to the list of the London-based company, the University of Pécs belongs to the TOP 500 universities of the world in clinical, pre-clinical and health sciences, as well as in life sciences, furthermore it is the strongest higher education institution in Hungary outside Budapest.

A student of the Faculty of Law, University of Pécs, Kata Bárdos has won the international artificial intelligence chatbot development competition organized by iLex and IBM in October 2018. The final winner was chosen from 2,500 participants from ten countries. During the contest, students had to train LEXI, a virtual assistant developed by iLex using IBM Watson Assistant technology. The aim of the programme was to offer an insight to the new opportunities created by the artificial intelligence revolution.

The University of Pécs held a Ceremonial Senate Meeting on 8 November 2018. celebrating the Day of Hungarian Science. At the Meeting, two new honorary doctor have been inaugurated, and university awards and honours have been conferred as well.

The Senate of Pope John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biala Podlaska (Poland) conferred the prestigious Honoris Causa Title upon Dr. Pongrác Ács associate professor, vice-dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Director of the Institute of Physiotherapy and Sport Sciences. 

Several professors and associate professors of the University of Pécs received prestigious awards for their outstanding contributions on the national holiday of 20 August 2018 in Budapest.

The University of Pécs has recently been listed among the best universities in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of the renowned ShanghaiRanking company. The recently published ranking of academic subjects for 2018 listed the Medical School of the University of Pécs in the field of Clinical Medicine to the prestigious 401-500th place.

On 1 September 2018 the Ceremonial Meeting on the Day of Pécs and the Ceremonial Senate Meeting of the University of Pécs Opening the Academic Year was jointly celebrated. On this occasion, awards of the city and the university have been conferred.
