The University of Pécs among the Best!
The University of Pécs has recently been listed among the best universities in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of the renowned ShanghaiRanking company. The recently published ranking of academic subjects for 2018 listed the Medical School of the University of Pécs in the field of Clinical Medicine to the prestigious 401-500th place.
The global ranking of academic subjects has been published since 2017, in which they rank altogether 54 academic subjects. The rankings are based on a 100-point system, with a focus on indicators of publishing activities weighted according to the characteristics of the field. They are taking into account the number of published articles and their appearance in the reference literature, the citation index, as well as the number of research articles published in international cooperation, and the number of important awards that can be won in that field.
„There are more lists and rankings published in international journals every year, we pay attention to these, naturally. Most rankings focus on the number of published scientific articles and references, the number of Nobel Prize and other award winner professors and students, and the revenues of the field. Therefore interpreting the position in a ranking can sometimes be difficult in the case of traditional universities, although they represent tremendous value. The scientific potential of the University of Pécs are outstanding, offering a diverse range of educational and research programmes, all of which help its integration into the international scientific community. That is why it is remarkable, when our efforts and achievements do not go unnoticed. This time, Clinical Medicine at the University of Pécs got acknowledged. There are of course strong competitors on international level, and in this competition, we do our best to keep the outstanding and successful researchers, professors, and to give young talents an opportunity” – said Prof. Attila Miseta, rector.
It is common knowledge, that as part of the Modern Cities Programme, the University of Pécs is going to spend 25 billion Forints on strengthening its competitiveness, and on increasing the number of enrolled international students, as well as the infrastructural developments necessary for that.
