When it comes to move abroad, study and start a new chapter of your life, wherever you head for, it is important to have a variety of shopping opportunities. If you decide for the city of Pécs, you will easily find everything you can only wish for, let it be groceries, medications, souvenirs, clothes, school supplies or anything else.
Food, fashion item or gadget prices have reached EU levels. Grocery chains Spar, Lidl, Aldi and Penny are to be found quite densely throughout the city, while hypermarkets are usually located in the outskirts of Pécs or Szekszárd (Tesco, Metro). There is a large city centre shopping mall in Pécs called Árkád.
The biggest shopping facilities:
- ÁRKÁD shopping centre
- PÉCS PLÁZA shopping mall
- Király street
As you stroll through the city, you will be surprised at the number of pedestrian-only streets, making shopping in Pécs a pleasurable activity. Many of the stores are standard shops like the ones that can be found in Budapest or any other large city, for that matter. For a more exotic shopping experience, visit the Pécsi Vásár (Pécs Flea Market). At this crowded, bustling, open-air market you can find everything from antique china and silver to Turkish T-shirts and Chinese baby booties. The market is open Friday, Saturday and on the first Sunday of the month. Take a special bus which departs from the Konzum downtown shopping center. You need two standard city bus tickets for this bus; these are available at newsstands and kiosks or ask the bus driver, but in this case the prices are higher. You can also take the bus No.3 from the Konzum (only one ticket required), but you'll have to walk some distance from the stop to the entrance of the flea market.
