Ceremonial Senate Meeting for Honoris Causa Doctors and the opening of the Human well-being conference
Doctor Honoris Causa titles, Doctor et Professor Honoris Causa title, Professor Emeritus title and honorary professor title were conferred at the ceremonial meeting of the Senate of the University of Pécs held in the Dr. Halasy-Nagy József Aula on 16th November. The event was also the opening ceremony of the Human well-being conference.
According to the rules and regulations of the Doctorate Rules of the University, the Senate inaugurates those natives and those people from abroad who
- has persisted in studying their scientific fields for decades,
- has gained international recognition,
- has supported connection with the University of Pécs,
- has provided great help and service towards the university, the Hungarian science and arts,
- and whose inauguration by the Honoris Causa Doctor or the Doctor et professor Honoris Causa title enhances the reputation of the University of Pécs.
Doctor Honoris Causa title was conferred on:
Catherine Vértesi (Retired Vice President of Capilano University, Vancouver, Canada)
Ismet Güral (Executive Chairman of Gural Porselen, Honorary Consul of Hungary, Kütahya, Tukey)
Lajos Gelencsér (CEO of E.ON South-West Hungarian Electricity Plc.)
Maurizio Ferraris (Vice-Rector for Humanities Research, President of Laboratory for Ontology, University of Turin)
Norbert Kersken (Vice Head of Department of the Herder-Institut, Marburg)
Predrag Sikirić (Professor at Department of the Pharmacology, Medical University of Zagreb, Croatia)
Doctor et Professor Honoris Causa title was conferred on:
Stephen M. Jordan (President of the Metropolitan State University, Denver)
The Senate of the University of Pécs conferred the professor emeritus title and a gold badge bearing the crest of the university in recognition of his work as a recognized researcher in the fields of quantum optics, quantum information and the foundations of quantum mechanics, to
- professor János Bergou.
The Senate of the University of Pécs conferred the honorary professor title and a silver badge bearing the crest of the university upon:
- István Soós, Reader of the University of Sunderland.
