Jubilee monument of university founders will be created
Norbert Kotormán is the sculptor who will create the monument of William Bishop and King Louis the Great. Kotormán’s model has won, so his monument will be inaugurated on the 1st of September in 2016 at the jubilee ceremony on the promenade between the North side of Pécs Cathedral and the Medieval University.
On the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the foundation of the University of Pécs the Parliament decided that 1 September will be the Day of the Hungarian Higher Education and the memorial day of the university foundation in Pécs. The UP Jubilee 650 Strategic Consortium called for proposals with the title of ’Creating the monument of King Louis the Great and William Bishop for the 650th anniversary of the UP’.
The model of Norbert Kotormán expresses best of all the spirit of the era, the significance of the university foundation, besides it includes the characteristics of Gothic art. Moreover, the aesthetic values of the model are also outstanding.
Kotormán’s work is wellknown in Hungary as well as abroad, he is an active participant of contemporary fine art life.
