Notes from Brazil

I’m 23 years old and I’m studying general medicine at the Medical School of the University of Pécs. The opening ceremony of the Medical School was a decisive experience for me: at that moment I realized that a completely new chapter of my life had just started!

I chose Pécs because this town provides me a calm environment for my studies: it is beautiful and offers everything I would expect.  I often go for cycling with my friends so I got to know some very nice places in Pécs. I like Lake Malomvölgy, Szent István Square, Széchenyi Square, the statue called Niké, Orfű (which is a little village with a popular lake near Pécs - the ed.). I guess these are the best spots here for sightseeing or for hanging out with friends. I remember a time when we were mountain hiking with my Hungarian friends at night by fullmoon: we didn’t even have to use flashlight as the light of the moon was enough. And the view we had from there… it was amazing!

I think wine festivals are also worth a try, I’ve been to such events several times and I just love them. Sometimes you can enjoy concerts of local bands and even traditional Hungarian dances on Szent István Square.

I really like Hungarian foods: when I eat some I feel like at home. It is as spicy as Brazilian cuisine. My favourite dishes are stew, cheesy scone and scone with potato, cake, cheese-curd and potato salad. I‘m also keen on restaurants of Pécs, my favourite one is Bohémia étterem.

About the Hungarian parties: I think everyone should go and try, I go out every time I have the opportunity and I’ve always enjoyed it.

I'm really happy that I established Hungarian friendships. Actually, even my best friend is  Hungarian. I'm sure I will keep in touch with the people I got to know here and I'm definitely going to return to Hungary. After all, I’m having some of the best years of my life here.
