Opening ceremony of the 2015/16 academic year
The new academic year 2015/16 has been officially opened on 1 September 2015. Awards and prices have been conferred upon lecturers and students by Rector József Bódis.
At the beginning of the event, Dr. József Bódis, Rector of the University of Pécs welcomed the guests and opened the school year.
After that Bence Rétvári, Deputy Minister of Human Resources Department shared his thoughts about the current issues of higher education.
On the occasion of the Semmelweis Day, Gábor Zombor, Secretary of State for Health conferred the Batthány-Strattmann László Award on László Farkas, associate professor of UP Urology Clinic and György Kosztolányi, professor emeritus of UP Department of Medical Genetics in recognition of their outstanding performance for their professional work done for the development of health care.
Tibor István Csere, professor emeritus of the UP Clinic Center received the Pro Sanitate Award for his outstanding professional work in oncology and radiology.
On the occasion of 20 August, day of the state founder King Saint Stephen, Zoltán Balog, Minister of Human Resources awarded the Middle Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit to Tamás Dóczi, professor emeritus of the UP Neurosurgery Clinic in recognition of his outstanding professional work.
On the occasion of 1 September, the Pécs City Day Péter Németh was awarded with the Pro Civitate Commemorative Medal for his scientific, diagnostic immunology work and in recognition of his career as a professor at the Medical School.
Imre Nagy, professor emeritus of the Faculty of Humanities, a dominant figure in the literary life of the town could take over the City Hall Medal of Honor.
AttilaMiseta, professor, dean of the Medical School was awarded with the Pro Civitate Commemorative Medal for his scientific activities and laboratory work.
Zoltán Balog, Minister of Human Resources awarded the Hungarian Higher Education Commemorative Plaquette to the following lecturers of the UP:

- Melinda Járomi, assistant professor of the UP Faculty of Health Sciences

The Senate of the University of Pécs conferred Pro Universitate Quinqueecclesiensi Award upon:

The Senate of the University of Pécs conferred rector emeritus title and the university signet ring upon Zoltán Dubéczi, the educational director of the Hungarian National Bank.
Pro Universitate Juventutis Award was conferred upon Tamás Fleisz, student of the Faculty of Arts in recognition of his professional and artistic work during his studies.
The Culture Award of the University of Pécs was conferred upon:
- “PSZIESZTA” student group, which organizes an event for the psychology students and others interested in psychology since 1996, that became a nationally recognized event
- PTE Brass Band for their promotion of instrumental music
University Sports Award has been conferred for their outstanding achievements upon:
- Dániel Berta, student of the Faculty of Sciences for his outstanding achievements in the sport of fencing, epee category on national, European and international competitions.
- Diána Fűrész, student of the Faculty of Business and Economics, 75-time member of Hungarian Women’s National Basketball Team Filoména Kovács, (Faculty of Humanities) athlete of the PVSK, orienteering world champion frame member.
- Tamás Sebestyén, student of the Faculty of Sciences for his outstanding sports activity and achievements in powerlifting during the 2014/15 academic year.
The Rector conferred the Alma Mater Commemorative Medal upon Zoltán Havasi, graduated student of the Faculty of Business and Economics for being a dominant figure of the Faculty’s community, his determining work in building the community, his outstanding academic performance and his second place on the National Scientific Student Conference.
