Chinese delegation at the University of Pécs!

Xiao Qian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Hungary arrived at the University of Pécs with his delegation on the 8th of January, 2014. The goal of his visit was to agree upon the details concerning the future Confucius Institute in Pécs, as well as to discuss further Chinese-Hungarian cooperation opportunities with the UP leadership. The mission of the institute will be to raise the awareness among UP citizens about the thousand-year-old tradition of Chinese medicine and culture.

The guests were welcomed by József Bódis, Rector of the University of Pécs, László Komlósi, Vice Rector and József Betlehem, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences in the Rector's Council Chamber. Beside the Ambassador, the Chinese party was represented among others by Li Xinhua (group leader of the Education Group of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Hungary) and Wang Hongliang (councillor of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Hungary).

The friendly meeting was opened by a rectorial welcome speech in Hungarian language. József Bódis expressed his pleasure to welcome again the delegation members at the UP and to negotiate about the future construction of the Confucius Institute.

This wasn't the first time in Pécs for Mr. Xiao Oian. The last meeting was held in the beginning of last year, when the supportive decision about the creation of the Confucius Institute had been made. This time, the focus was on how to realize the designing and building processes. Each of our Chinese guests agreed upon the UP being absolutely suitable for the construction of an institution dealing with traditional Chinese medicine, having the absolute support of the Chinese Embassy.

The Chinese delegation stated that it is now a highly favourable timing to start the construction of the Confucius Institute. The reason for this claim is the recent news about the Hungarian Prime Minister's visit to Beijing, since this act can be considered a clear step in the direction of opening towards a closer Hungarian-Chinese cooperation policy.

József Bódis also told about his plan of visiting to China again soon, accompanied by a Hungarian delegation to deepen and expand the successfully established cooperative relations between the two parties. The friendly meeting was followed by a pleasant walk during which the Chinese delegation and the university leaders went to see the future location of the Confucius Institute in Pécs together.

You shall not pass!
