Topping out ceremony of the future Rehabilitation Centre
The great investment of the University of Pécs, which is worth of nearly 850 million forints has reached an important stage. The contractor has finished the structural work on the Rehabilitation Centre which was supported by EU grants. On this festive occasion, a traditional topping out ceremony was organized on the 15th of July.
The prospective Rehabilitation Centre fills an old gap within the health services provided by the UP's Clinical Centre, a wide range of neurological patients will be rehabilitated here.
In building construction, topping out is a rite of the builder traditionally held when the walls reach their maximum height. At the ceremony, the building facade gets decorated with ribbons, hence the name 'topping out'.
The application of the University of Pécs to the call for 'development of rehabilitation services' was submitted in December 2011. The grant agreement was signed in June 2012. The total project budget took about 4.3 billion forints.
The 16-month-long construction is in progress as it has been scheduled before, meaning that the brand new 1600-square-metre Rehabilitation Centre of the University can be finished by the beginning of next year. The new building block will take place in the vicinity of the Neurology and Neurosurgery Clinics; moreover, these two departments will be linked directly to each other. In the case of neurologically rehabilitated patients it will enable the diagnosis and surgical consultation, eliminating the potential inconveniences and the time-consuming and costly patient transportation.
The ground floor will host the ambulatory rehabilitation clinics, community spaces for a healthy life-style education to patients and two gyms that will primarily serve for treating cardiology rehabilitation patients. Twenty-five beds will be placed in the first floor. The one-, two- and four-bed rooms with comfortable private bathrooms will meet all the requirements of our modern ages.
