Chinese guidance from Pécs

Where did you come from? Tell us some details about the town where you live in China.
Anhui province. But I studied in Beijing. The place where I came from is a small town in the south part of China. It is famous for its beautiful scenery and Chinese tea. I like my hometown very much.

You are a teacher from China, why did you come here to teach?
The ELTE Confucius Institute has a cooperation with a Chinese university, so I applied for this Job. Then the Confucius Institute arranged me to come to Pécs to teach Chinese.

As far as I know you are here since last year's August, so you already spent much time here. How do you feel about the Hungarian students and what are your most effective methods to teach them?
First, the students here are so kind to me. Second, they are very interested in Chinese culture and language. They study Chinese much faster than I thought. I have to say some of them really have talent to learn this language. I think when I'm teaching, I'm trying to teach them some things which are useful and also interesting. For example I always teach about Chinese culture and not just the language. I taught them how to use chopsticks, they really enjoyed it. I also pay attention to the difference between China and Hungary.

And how well do you think they are able to understand the Chinese culture and the everyday life there
Sometimes they don't understand the Chinese culture. But after I explained, all of them would understand. They are very curious about all kinds of Chinese culture.

You've mentioned the Confucius Institution. Do you have further plans with it here in Hungary?
Pecs university will have its own Confucius Institution later. So maybe later, I'll apply for that and come back here to teach Chinese.

So you have been here for quite a long time. What do you think about Hungary, its culture, and about the Hungarian meals?
I like the food here! All kinds of soup and snacks. The wine here is also very good! I love the city here, it is a very old but beautiful city. The culture here is also very attractive for me. People are very kind and nice to me. I think when I am going to leave, I will be really sad and miss this place.

I've read that the Chinese and the Hungarian languages are both (but not equally) hard. What do you think about this statement as a native Chinese speaker who have learnt a little Hungarian too?
Well, this hard to say, I only learned a little Hungarian. But the Hungarian is really a little difficult for me. Language is a thing which you take time and you'll get better. I have to work a lot here so actually I don't have too much time to practise my Hungarian. If I study harder, maybe it is not a difficult language.

Finally, what do you think about Chinese restaurants comparing to the restaurants in China?
There are big differences. The food in China is more suitable for our Chinese people. The food here is more suitable for the local people. But they still have some same parts. Both are very delicious though.
