Zsolnay Festival & University Days: 3 days of non-stop fun!

3 days, 23 000 visitors, 110 sub-events, 500 performers and nearly 40 concerts. These few numbers suggest that combining the Zsolnay Festival (an annual spring festival organised by the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in Pécs) and the University Days of Pécs (one of the most awaited student events) was an awesome initiative. The unique double-festival was a great success and managed to bring more fun and entertainment to the audience than ever before. Read our report below!

The Zsolnay Festival & University Days was born as a result of the cooperation between the Student Union of the University of Pécs (in Hungarian: PTE EHÖK) and the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter. The 3+1 day long event offered an extremely colourful range of programmes and unlimited fun for everyone - regardless of age and gender. Attendance was completely free for visitors until 19:00 pm; students and UP employees had the chance to buy discount entry tickets afterwards for the exclusive late night concerts.

The countless family and children programmes took place during the day and were visited by about 15 000 people, while concerts attracted nearly 8000 visitors - even from far away country regions and abroad!

The festival was not only about fun; participants could get tips for how to build their career and information about health-conscious lifestyle and there was a well-visited blood donation stand. Those students of the University of Pécs who felt like taking some charity actions collected a whole truckload of non-perishable food for the Red Cross.

Zsolt Páva, mayor of Pécs and Dr. József Bódis, rector of the University emphasized the amazing achievement that the once forgotten industrial area of the Zsolnay Factory was transformed into a real cultural attraction of the city. The cooperation of the two organizer institutions was about to highlight openness and creativity.
