New laboratory of the Szentágothai Research Centre

The Research and Technology Transfer Office of the University of Pécs has been organizing the UP Innovation Day for years. This year, in addition to several presentations, attendants had the chance to meet our researchers and inventors within the framework of an interactive exhibition. The annual event was enriched by the visit of Mr. KIM Yongsuk, Director General and commercial attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.

In 2014 the main focus has been on venture capital and foundation of spin-off companies, which happen to be one of today's most popular topics in the field of economic development and policy.

Humeltis Ltd. was established in March, 2014 as a spin-off company of the University of Pécs. Its technology is based upon a unique 3D model of the human lung tissue, which demonstrates the operation of the human lung much more precisely than current testing procedures available in the market, including cell cultures and live animals. The model was created by the owner of the company, Prof. Judit Pongrácz, PhD, DSc, professor of the Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Department and programme director of the Medical Biotechnology MSc program, doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. At present, the company is working on developing a scientific advisory board as well. For more information please visit the following website: http://www.humeltis.com/.

The spin-off company is starting to operate in the field of biotechnology in the Szentágothai Research Centre. The inauguration of the new research lab designed to meet specific requirements took place on the 27th of May, 2014. It is the interest of the region, the city and the University as well, to attract more knowledge-intensive, internationally active, competitive enterprises which can collaborate with local academic research centres. This can help keep the highly skilled workforce, and also contributes to GDP growth.
