In memoriam dr. Attila Buday-Sántha, Professor of Economics
A great personality of the University of Pécs, Faculty of Economics, one of the prominent representatives who created the regional education and research system in Hungary, Professor Attila Buday-Sántha passed away tragically on the 17th of May, 2014.
Attila Buday-Sántha was born on the 15th of November, 1941 in Szekszárd, Hungary. He attended high school in Pécs. In 1964, he received his diploma degree in agricultural engineering at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Keszthely.
He became member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1994. His main research areas covered agricultural economy, environmental and rural development. He founded the Doctoral School of Regional Policy and Economics which has become an important educational research centre of the region. He played an active role in several scientific bodies and focused on implementing development concepts. The results of Professor Buday-Sántha were acknowledged by a number of scientific awards.
He was a rigorous, consistent, selfless and always helpful, hardworking professor admired by thousands of economists, PhD researcher, urban development specialist, whose scientific heritage we will remember for a long time.
The University of Pécs considers dr. Buday-Sántha its own dead and shares the sorrow of the family.
