12:00 Canada: A Land of Opportunities
Isabelle Poupart, Ambassador of Canada to Hungary
2017 marks Canada’s 150th anniversary. What does this mean exactly? Furthermore, what does it mean to be Canadian today? Canadian ambassador Isabelle Poupart will address these questions and more! She will also elaborate on the strong relationship between Canada and Hungary (more than 320,000 Canadians have Hungarian roots!) as well as outline opportunities for Hungarian students to study abroad in Canada.
Hungarian Exodus exhibit
10:00 –18:00 Study in Canada - Educational exhibition
10:00 –18:00 Hungarian Exodus exhibit
The Hungarian Exodus exhibit, consisting of 18 panels, commemorates and documents the lives, struggles and achievements of the 40,000 refugees who immigrated to and settled in Canada following the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. Through a collection of photos and short excerpts, the exhibition narrates Canada’s reaction to the 1956 crisis. The exhibit seeks to raise awareness of Canada’s generous policy of taking in large numbers of Hungarian refugees; it also illustrates the rich cultural, economic and political contributions to Canada made by Hungarians who found new homes and lives between 1956-57.
