Dr. Antal Ádám

Dr. Antal Ádám professor emeritus is honorary doctor of the University of Pécs since 14 March 2013.

Antál Ádám

Antal Ádám was born on 14 February 1930 in Jánoshalma. He pursued his degree at the Law Faculty of the University of Pécs between 1949 and 1953. After being appointed as an assistant lecturer at the Law Faculty he took part in an aspirant training in Budapest, he defended his PhD dissertation in 1958. He was appointed as a university professor in 1967, from 2000 he holds the professor emeritus title. Between 1974 and 1975 he held the position of vice dean, between 1975 and 1978 the position of dean at the Faculty, he defended his doctoral thesis in April 1999. Antal Ádám was also member of the Constitutional Court from 1990 until 1998.

He was a member - and is still a member - of several professional bodies, he participates in the work of the faculty committees, as well as in the university doctoral and habilitation committees. Thanks to his extensive language skills (German, French, reading in English and Russian), he held more than 100 lectures abroad, moreover he presented 35 national abstracts to international scientific congresses and conferences.

Based on the MTMT records, until February 2013 he was author of more than 450 professional publications and some 150 magazine articles and interviews. In addition, for nearly 40 years he has been editing certain publications of the Faculty. His work is also appreciated by the students of the Faculty, who elected the professor three times as „The Most Popular Instructor" between 2000 and 2004. Antal Ádám is honorary citizen of Pécs and Jánoshalma, but his work was also recognised trough the numerous state awards he received during his career.

In his speech at the Doctor Honoris Causa awarding ceremony he emphasized the importance of his ties to the UP: „I take it very fortunate, that I can study, cultivate and teach both the traditional and the modified, novel subjects for more than six decades, binding to the University of Pécs."
