Prof. Dr. Tuomo Lahdelma

Honorary doctor and professor of the Faculty of Humanities since 8 November 2012.

Professor Tuomo Lahdelma was born in Mikkeli 1953. He completed his baccalaureate in the Lyceum of Mikkeli in 1972 and finished his MA degree in the University of Jyväskylä in 1976, with Finnish Language and World literature as my major subjects. Right after his graduation, and a half-a-year grant in Hungary, he was employed by the department of Literature in the University of Jyväskylä. Since then he has worked there, except for those periods of time when he has been a visiting professor in universities abroad.

The main events in his career have been the following

Degree of Master of Arts, Degree of Licentiate of Arts, Doctor of Philosophy, Docent of Hungarian literature at University of Jyväskylä.

Assignments

Full-time Lecturer, Substitute Assistant, Assistant and Substitute Assistant Professor, Visiting Professor, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Senior Assistant (Reader), Literature, Docent of Hungarian Studies, especially Hungarian literature,  Chair for Hungarian Studies. Chair for Creative Writing, Substit. Assistant Professor, Visiting Professor invited by the DAAD in the University of Hamburg, Professor for Hungarian Studies and Creative Writing.

Several other visiting assignments, e.g. visiting Socrates lecturer in the universities of Vienna, Munich, Florence and Hamburg, Padua and Tartu. Total of approximately 1.5 years of lecturing in the University of Debrecen (Hungary). Participation in the creation of the Socrates cooperation of Hungarian Studies (since 1992) and the Socrates coordinator in the University of Jyväskylä.

Other Academic Activities

  • Since 1992, Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Hungarian Studies, Vice President of the Association since 1996, President of the Association since 2006.
  • Chair for the 5th International Congress of Hungarian Studies, held in Jyväskylä 6-10 August 2001.
  • Chair for the yearbook Hungarologische Beiträge (1993-, 18 vol.).
  • Since 2002, a member of the publication council of Hungarológiai közlemények(published by the department of Hungarian Studies in the University of Novi Sad).
  • Since 2002, International Advisor for the Balassi Bálint Institution.
  • Since 2003, a member of the publication council of Ungarn-Jahrbuch (published by the Ungarisches Institut, München).
  • 2005-2007 Chair for the Cult, Community, Identity project funded by the Finnish Academy.
  • Since 2008 together with Beáta Thomka chair for the publication series Spectrum Hungarologicum.
