Dr. Pier Giorgio Natali was the director of the Regina Elena Cancer Institute, Division of Immunology in Rome until his retirement on 31st December in 2008. He graduated summa cum lade at the La Sapienza Medical School in Rome in 1966. He also worked as the director of the Poloncologico Institute, a leading nationwide institute for oncology treatment in Italy. Professor Natali is one of the most well-known clinical immunologists also doing basic research and a very important academic personality.
He has excellent relations with the world's leading immunologists. He is one of the leaders of the Italian prevention programme for oropharyngeal cancer. Several associates of the Public Health Institute took part in joint research on this topic.
He has been working together with the Public Health Institute of the Pécs Medical School for more than twenty years. In 1988 he became the director of the Regina Elena Cancer Institute's Division of Immunology in Rome. He is also head of Immunology and Molecular Pathology since 2001.
Several colleagues of the Public Health Institute took part in academic field trips of various durations at Professor Natali's institute. Useful collaboration evolved in many fields of immunohistochemstry, like the MENA antibody, which he personally made available for the Institute. This collaboration has resulted in several joint presentations.
