Norbert Lammert

Professor Doctor Norbert Lammert is a German politician, President of the Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament.

Norbert Lammert was born in 1948, in Bochum, Germany. He graduated from secondary school in 1967 and did his military service from 1967 to 1969. After completing his military service Professor Lammert studied political science, sociology, modern history and social economics at the University of Bochum and at the University of Oxford, England. He earned his degree in 1972 but carried on studying at the University of Ruhr in Bochum to get a doctorate in social sciences, which he accomplished in 1975. Although he worked as a lecturer, he became a member of the Bochum City Council in 1975. He was elected member of the Bundestag in 1980, and has been an MP ever since. Professor Lammert served as Vice President of the Bundestag from 2002 to 2005 when he was elected  President of the Lower House. He is an honorary associate professor of many foundations and academies. Professor Lammert is well known for his ability to adapt scientific discoveries and theoretical methods to professional, practical routine. He is also the Deputy Director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation since 2001.
