Frédéric Magoulès, honorary professor of the University of Pécs and Péter Iványi, professor of the UP's Pollack Mihály Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology were awarded the CUDA Education Centre title from the NVIDIA company based in the USA. This is the first CUDA Education Centre founded by NVIDIA in Hungary. NVIDIA is a world-leading company in the field of graphic display and the inventor of the graphic processor unit (GPU).

In 2011, the University of Pécs created a so-called supercomputing centre. From this year on, several high performance-based projects have been carried out. This is how the CUDA Education Centre was established in 2014, which enables the training of students and academic staff in the field of modern information technology.

The CUDA Education Centre is connected to the MSc programme in Computer Science Engineering. It enables students to acquire practical experience in programming CUDA-based systems. The newly created centre is also linked to the High Performance Computations for Engineering Summer School, where CUDA-based systems will be available for students and teachers of other European universities, too. Occasionally, the CUDA Education Centre will also be hosting trainings for PhD students, employees and researchers of the University of Pécs.

The company NVIDIA provided some specific devices and books as well to the University of Pécs, Pollack Mihály Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology. Among others, there are GeForce GTX 780 video graphics cards and the NVIDIA Tesla K40 GPU card, which is capable of 1:43 TFLOPS peak performance in case of double precision, using a 2880 CUDA core.
