Nguyen Huu Ninh

Professor Nguyen Huu Ninh is an internationally recognized environment researcher, director of the Centre for Environmental Research, Education and Development who has made an extraordinary contribution to the research into climate change. He received a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 as a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Organization. It is important to mention that he speaks Hungarian quite well, as he completed his studies in Hungary, at the University of Szeged from 1971 to 1977. Then he stayed in Hungary at the Centre for Biology of Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Szeged as a scholarship holder of UNESCO and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He spent more than half a year in the Institute for Biophysical Research in Pécs.

After receiving his scientific degree, he visited many research institues all over the world (USA, Thailand, Japan, Philippines, China, Bangladesh, Australia, Brazil, India, Korea, England, Spain, Hawaii, etc.) and represented Vietnam in every important environmental programme. He was known world-wide as the Travelling Ambassador of Vietnam. He returned to Szeged in 2001 as a guest researcher. During his many activities he also took part in the work of every council of the International Geosphere, Biosphere Program which coordinates the most important global changes of the Earth and where he met academician József Tigyi, who represents our country in that organization. Besides many international achievements Nguyen Huu Ninh has produced remarkable scientific work and published 85 scientific essays and environmental reports.
