Kristóf Nyíri

Professor Kristóf Nyíri is a philosopher and a distinguishedprofessor whose specialty is philosophy of language, philosophy of communication and history of philosophy. His latest publications are about the function of pictures in thinking and the circulation of time. He graduated in 1968 from the Eötvös Lóránd University's Faculty of Humanities, where he studied mathematics and philosophy. Wittgenstein was in the centre of his research in philosophy of language and his "The philosophy's short history: from Vedas to Wittgenstein", co-authored with Ferenc L. Lendvai, was first published in 1974. He has been teaching philosophy since 1971 and is currently professor of philosophy at the Institute of Applied Pedagogy and Psychology at Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

He became a correspondent member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1993 and a regular member in 2001. He is also a member of the Institute International de Philosophie since 2006. Between 1995 and 2005 he was the director of the Institute for Philosophical Research of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In the autumn-winter semester of 2006/07 he worked as a Leibniz professor at the University of Leipzig. He also spent many years teaching at the PhD School of the University of Pécs. During his outstanding career he was a guest professor at numerous universities world-wide (USA, Austria, Finland). His board memberships include Honorary President of the Hungarian Wittgenstein Society and the Advisory Board Member in the Forschungsstelle für österreichische Philisophie (Graz, Austria).
