János Bergou honorary doctor of the University of Pécs since 14 March 2013.

János Bergou

Professor János Bergou is member of the Physical Sciences Department at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, he is professor of the Hunter College in the USA since 1993.

He pursued his diploma, followed by a PhD in Theoretical Physics at the Loránd Eötvös University in 1975, whereafter he worked as a scientist at the Central Research Institute for Physics until 1990. From 1980 he started teaching at the Attila József University in Szeged, however during this period he was visiting professor of several universities abroad. Between 1998 and 1999 he was also director of the Institute of Physics at the Janus Pannonius University in Pécs.

As a professor of Hunter College, he is teaching full curriculum of both undergraduate and graduate (PhD) courses, including the development and first offering at CUNY of advanced level laser physics, nonlinear and quantum optics, and quantum information/quantum computing courses for doctoral students.

Besides the numerous publications (Over 160 refereed publications, 1 book, 5 book chapters)
and lectures (70 invited talks several plenary talks at major international conferences) he was also organizer of 15 major international conferences. With the numerous awards received so far, not only his scientific, but also his extensive social and community activities have been recognized.
