Prof. Barry Hilary Valentine Topping is the honorary doctor of the Pollack Mihály Faculty of Engineering, University of Pécs since 4 November 2010.

Prof. Barry Hilary Valentine Topping is currently the director of the Computational Technology Solution company, Emeritus Professor of the Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

Prof. Topping wrote or edited more than 200 publications about the application of information technology and computation methods in engineering sciences. He was a professional consultant in several government and industrial projects. He gave lectures in many countries of Europe, in China and in the United States of America.

In 1990 hewas awarded the Telfor Premium Prize of the Institution of Civil Engineers. In 2001 the American Society of Civil Engineers gave Prof. Topping the best article prize. Currently he is co-editor of the „Advances in Engineering Software" and „Computers & Structures" international magazines. Prof. Topping organized in the last more than 25 years engineering conferences of different kinds anually.

Prof. Topping visited the Pollack Mihály Faculty of Engineering in the last 6 years regularly and participated in the scientific life of the faculty actively. He founded the PhD library at the faculty. Prof. Topping participated in the PhD & DLA symposium organized at the faculty every year and he contributed to the preparation of PhD students. He also gives lectures regularly at the „High Performance Computations for Engineering" PhD course of the faculty. Professor Barry Hilary Valentine Topping also organized „The First International Conference on Parallel, Distributed and Grid Computing for Engineering" at the Pollack Mihály Faculty of Engineering.
